Scrumptious weekend, part one: The Gargoyling.

Wednesday, December 19th, 2007

I had a thoroughly delicious weekend.

My new paramour{blush}, Delayne, came to town and I turned him into a gargoyle at the Little Red Studio’s Black Show.

Gargoyle

It was such a luscious evening… The show was terrific, with the gorgeous Mz Sophia flying high in her sumptuous bondage aerial act with the incredibly ropetastic Jim Duvall, amazing performances by Nan as the angel of Death and all kindsa yummy booty-shakin’. Not that we witnessed much of the show-we were too busy luxuriating in the gargoyliscious transformation. I’d spent the previous weeks creating a set of black silk tattered wings and horns affixed to a black wig fashioned into dread braids entwined with dead morning glory vines. During the opening tableau of the show, I painted Delayne with clay slip while he perched on a pedestal. As I covered each part of him, he froze into stone, bit by bit. It was exquisite and well, damnably hot-despite the coldness of the slippery, gooey clay. I LOVE how it all worked out… We got tons of compliments, he in his clay and I in my red wig and white gauze wrap bound on with red bondage twine. I think I pulled off looking all solemn and mournful too, stifling my giggles of surreptitious mirth and delight at turning a stone sculptor into a stone sculpture. ;)

See more delectable Delayne here.

Merry Kilnmas!

WOOOOOHOOOOOO!!! At long last, I’m kilned again!

My delighted, grateful thanks to my momma, for her generous gifting, to all the friends who have bought my art lately to help me afford the sucker and to the rockin’ kiln posse who got my shiny, pretty new baby werkin’ tonight.

kiln posse

It was a chore and a half, cuz when Molly(our kickass new housemate) helped me haul it inside, we discovered-ackthhhbbbt!-the plug’s prongs were the wrong configuration for the outlet holes!

Molly(our incredibly handy new housemate) ran around-on her precious day off, no less, to hardware stores with me ascertaining which parts we needed and then rallied a friend to come help us change it out-Sophie and Jim joined in and the Fellowship of the kiln began… With much quaffing of beer, twitching, snorting, and manly hefting of screwdrivers.

Sophie kept us all entertained by perching precariously on the old, detached slide off Sam’s bunkbed(to keep her feet off the cold cement garage floor) and falling down it every time a good joke knocked out her proprioceptors. ;)

laughing so hard she falls over!

I am SUCH a lucky woman.

Hurray Molly!

I love seeing a brilliant artist succeed. My friend Molly Kellogg just announced her latest show at Bard Hall Gallery in San Diego.

Her work thrills me.

Meaning of Life

The emotions of her figures just leap out and grab you.

Mother’s Love

I love this one-it reminds me a bit of one of my favorite photos of Sam and I, taken goofing around under the covers in our tent on a camping trip last summer.

sillyheads

It’s a ridiculously silly photo, with none of the glorious elegance of Mollie’s painting, but the love is the same.

:)

Probably this will discourage you for life

So begins Pema Chodron’s teaching on troublemakers.

Floodwalk

Tuesday, December 4th, 2007

Sam got sent home early from school today on account of the flood, so we celebrated by going to the Beaver park with BB to check out the crazyass torrents.

Flood!

It was incredible-the paths were rivers, the sandpits lakes and the river? The river was a raging, gorgeous force of Nature.

It was so cool.

Pics here.

Woohooooo! SNOW!

snow!

I <3 snow!

Snow Leo

I made a lion(click to bigify)

Snow kitty

and a kitty(again, click).

And went on a snow walk, got completely covered in lovely, chilly white fluff and saw the silliest thing I’ve ever seen… On my way home, as I walked past the Grooming shop, the near blizzard still swirling thickly down, a man came out, with a freshly-primped lhasa apso balanced on each arm! It was all I could do not to laugh my ass off as he fumbled for his keys and the snow gathered on the regally glaring, exquisitely coiffed dogs.

I realized later, I probably should have offered help opening his car, but at the time I was rendered quite speechless (and thoughtless) by the sight.

Ah well, apsos are practically snowlions themselves, so I’m sure it did them no harm.

Unfortunately, I didn’t take a picture. But you can see more pics of my kitties here.
