Owl painting, finished!

Thursday, August 26th, 2010

The Master’s calligraphy had risen into the night, a Great Horned Owl(!) and flown majestically off to warn the Kingdom of the invasion. Sheldrake couldn’t help but be disappointed when; after all his incantations and careful study; his strokes curled, rose on stubby, awkward wings and flapped back towards the barn.

Daybreak

Painted this in my sketchbook last week in an evening of supreme inspiration, finished it on the full moon and posted it on Fb and within an hour, two friends were vying to buy it!

A new friend sent me a link to this beautiful painting by Holly Friesen:

The blog he found it on, unabashedly female, is also chockful of inspiring things.

Enjoy!

Poor neglected blog…

Wednesday, April 21st, 2010

I shall have to catch up, now that I’m feeling alive again.

2010 hit me like a ill windstorm. Been sick for four months, not even up to working, so my wallet’s illin’ too. But starting to feel better now-yay for actually being able to sleep at night! And I did get several paintings painted and lots of illustrations and inspirations, so it wasn’t all bad.

Pomegranate magic.

catfeathers

Cat Feather Cloak. From a dream I had wherein a momkitty shed multi-hued feathers and they settled around me and formed a cloak.

In other, more auspicious news, Sam and I moved to an awesome new home in the top of a pretty yellow and red house near Greenlake and I’m planning my new garden.

Breaking sod again-commencing soon! :)

Fallhappy!

Just finished her, been working on her for a few weeks…

Forest sprite

Monday, November 9th, 2009

I made antlers(here I must confess I stoled the idea from my friend Seb) and painted trees on a silk slip to create my Halloween costume this year.

I also made an alternative set of horns, which Sam and I goofed off in later…

horns!

It was a really fun Halloween.. There was much partying, awesome costumage and much snuggling at Rita and Ben’s house and then I danced the night away at Pheralia with a dead guy and a pirate.

Pics here.

The Artathon 2009!!!

Sunday, April 19th, 2009

I love this event! How could I not?

24 hours of art-making madness with my wonderful, creative, wackyass friends and community?

I had so much fun this year. I drew/painted four lovely works on paper..

Now

..and bodypainted the lovely Kerry:

Kerry

And read a short, new poem:

Tiny,
wailing on the brink,
I cower before the echoing,
thunderous laughter
of my own heart.

You can see the rest of the loverly pictures here.

Aaaaaaaah, my art life is amazing right now.

JOY!

What does God need?

Saturday, August 30th, 2008

My friend Azra asked a rockin’ question on her lovely blog Dreaming of Chiaroscuro.

If you prayed for God, instead of to God, what would you pray for?

Go see my answer and add your own two cents.

Don’t miss her nefarious tomatoes, while you’re at it. ;)

Commission finished!

Friday, July 25th, 2008

Finally got my wind back and finished the painting I was commissioned to create at my gallery show a few months back.

The client, Dianna, bought my painting ‘Nap’

and she really liked a larger painting, ‘Renew’

but wanted one the same size as Nap, so she commissioned another work, born of the first Renew.

Hence, Renew 2 came into being.

Not as strong as the original inspiration, but still sweet and.. Aaaaaaaaah, completion is good.

It’s not every day one of your paintings hails you..

..pulls up to the curb, rolls down the car window and says hello.

:)

It was a very strange moment for my brain. As completely familiar as the details of her face were, I’d never met the woman before. My neurons flailed for context-which obligingly rushed to the rescue in the form of Scott(the client who commissioned the portrait), the driver of the vehicle.

Fortunately, I rather like having my mind blown and so it was really fun to say hello in the flesh to my Moon Goddess. I’m happy to report that she likes the painting-’tis always an uncertain thing to paint someone you don’t know from ittybitty besunglassed snapshots.

I felt quite tipsy with delight on the way home. Being an artist isn’t always fun-especially when the car insurance is due-but sometimes, it’s the best thing ever!
