Of dryads and shetland ponies

Saturday, May 24th, 2008

Added a slew more pictures to my Iceman set on Flickr-these from Delayne’s camera.

shetland

Such a pretty pony! :)

dryad

I couldn’t resist playing dryad in this amazing hollow nurse stump.

Love it-there’s a painting brewing there, for sure.

And yes, that is only two-for the rest of the slew(no it wasn’t a typo-just wantonly mangled grammar) you’ll have to click the link to the set.

gorilla

Or just an innocently unbent finger? Photo taken by Tom2001 on deviant art.

I think if she knew what it meant, she’d be advocate for the entire Chicago zoo and perhaps, Mother Nature too.

Hell of Insurance

Surely the seventh layer of hell for the self-employed.

A good article for all us stubborn pathfinders out here.

The audacity to hope..

..We might actually be able to elect a president who speaks to the issues with intelligence, compassion and deep understanding instead of throwing simple-minded stereotype-ridden soundbytes at us.

Barack Obama speaks.

Will our nation listen? Or are we so accustomed to media candy that we can’t even comprehend the potential of a nourishing meal when it’s set before us?

I know I’m not the only American who’s starving for this.

Listen. Chew. Vote!

coyote

(click to fully appreciate the sharpness of Coyote’s glower)

The Discovery Park coyote will not be hunted down and shot, the usual human answer to the presence of the wild.

Yay people! A little comprehension and respect, such a relief.

You might want to keep your lapdogs(coyote snacks) on their leashes, though.

Corvidology, anyone?

Ravens are so frickin’ cool.

They also recently did an experiment at Oxford with a pair of crows named Betty and Abel wherein they presented the birds with the same bait(a bucket of meat out of reach inside a glass tube, just like in the video you just saw if you were web-savvy enough to click on the red words above) and two pieces of wire, one hooked and one straight. Betty grabbed the hooked wire to fish the bucket out, Abel stole the hooked wire from Betty, and rather than giving up, Betty “modified” the straight wire into a hooked wire, and was thus able to hook the bucket, pull it up, and retrieve her snack. Article here.

Hmmm… Wonder what that says about male vs female? ;)

And, it says here, ravens are associated with the Triple Goddess-hurrah! Guess I’m living in the right house.

That’s what we’d be for this fellow:

gastornis

Glad I’m not a prehistoric girl. All of the beasties back then were pretty much armed and armoured to the (gigantic, sharp) teeth.

Speak up to stop the killing!

Sunday, September 30th, 2007

Add your name to the petition launched by Moveon.org and Avaaz.org to support the protesters in Burma and stop the murderous military crackdown.

‘After decades of military dictatorship, the people of Burma are rising – and they need our help. Marches begun by monks and nuns snowballed, bringing hundreds of thousands to the streets. Now the crackdown has begun, but the protests are spreading…

When the Burmese last marched in 1988, the military massacred thousands. If the world stands up and supports their struggle, this time they could win. We’re in a race against time– targeting the dictatorship’s main backer China in a global advertising campaign, delivering the petition to the UN secretary-general and sending the Burmese our support via radio.’

p

Everett experienced some serious swashbuckling this weekend. ‘Twas thick with pirates, tall ships, swords and games.

These guys are awesome!
