look out rat creatures!
We finished reading The Fellowship of the Ring and so I rented the Extended version of the movie. Sam was awed. The Uruk-hai chieftan really blew him away, not to mention the swordfighting and archery and all. Now he's a regular little Legolas... I made him a bow and arrow out of some red branches I had left over from the Valentines party and he's been shooting Nate ever since.
Nate's been staying with us this week. He's a good friend and has been a great help in the garden and a good sport with Sam-he dies really well when hit by many arrows! My hori-hori was a big hit too, Sam went goggle-eyed when he saw it-it's got a SHEATH! It was instantly transformed into Ratcrist, the ratcreature-biter and he's been helping me kill sod with a vengeance ever since!
Victory is ours! It's going to be quite a garden. I can't wait to plant... There's little baby veggies for sale at PCC already.

heehee.
He's being such a little man lately, Grau. You shoulda seen how impressed he was with the Uruk-Hai captain-the badass that pulls Aragorns sword right through his own chest and laughs in his face right before getting his head chopped off!
As a mom, I'm not sure I should share his bloodthirsty glee, but it's pretty contagious... He looks so valiant when he's stabbing the ratsods.

Heheh it's hardwired into boys (and, judging by some of the kids in my neighborhood, quite a few girls).
Society freaks out about that stuff way too much anymore.
You just have to make sure your kids a firm grip of fantasy vs. reality. My Elderspawn was been watching me get "killed" at ren faires and living history battles for years. Even when he was three years old he knew it was just pretending (after I showed him that the blood was fake).

You showed him the blood was fake AFTER you 'died'?!
;)
I'm fine with it, I even encourage it, as long as he doesn't chop any fingers(mine or his own)off.
But it's hard to know with kids, what impressions are forming in their minds that could linger(or malinger) the rest of their life if not put in the proper perspective now.

LOL! No, of course I showed him it was fake before (actually he watched us make the "blood bags" and wanted to know what was going on)
He thought it was pretty cool, especially when one of my clanmates got a sparth axe (big axe-headed pole arm) to the belly and burst open a 1 gallon freezer bag of fake blood (Which, instead of spraying out like it supposed to, landed in one gelatinous mass on top of another clan member who had already "died". THAT was hilarious... and messy)

Phew...
That's too funny! Sam would flip out. I bet he'd love it.
Hmmm... Maybe I should take him to some SCA events.
